Divinyls / Essential

The first decade of Divinyls' career showed them transition from a spunky new wave band, to an alternative rock staple, to a hard rocking machine. After three well received albums for the Chrysalis label, Divinyls moved to the Virgin Records label and had a worldwide hit with 'I Touch Myself' in 1991. On the back of this success, their former label put together Essential, a compilation of key tracks from their three Chrysalis albums from the 1980's to give newcomers a well-rounded overview of their output to date. Including such underground and chart hits as 'Boys In Town', 'Pleasure & Pain' and 'Back To The Wall', the latter included in the 1988 film A Nightmare on Elm Street 4: The Dream Master, Essential celebrates Divinyls earliest successes across twelve tracks. With Chrissy Amphlett's distinctive vocals and Mark McEntee's edgy guitar style, Divinyls was a sound like no one else.
